In the passage, Samuel follows the LORD’s command and arrives in Bethlehem.
The city elders meet him and inquire if he comes in peace.
Samuel assures them that he has come to sacrifice to the LORD.
He then consecrates Jesse’s and his sons and invites them to the sacrifice.
When Jess’s sons are presented to Samuel, he makes assumptions based on their appearances, but the LORD reminds him that He looks at the heart, not outward appearances.
Eventually, it is revealed that none of the present sons is chosen.
Instead, the youngest son, who was tending to the sheep, is the one the LORD has chosen.
