Metro front page
The majority of front pages lead with the finale of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Metro reports she made a surprise appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the close of the Jubilee Pageant on Sunday, thanking the millions who came out in force to celebrate her record-breaking 70-year reign, telling them: “I have been humbled and deeply touched”.
Daily Mirror front page
Under the headline “My heart is with you all”, the Daily Mirror highlights the Queen’s “moving tribute” to the nation. The paper says the surprise appearance was a “perfect” end to the Jubilee and showcases a picture of third-in-line to the throne Prince George giving his great-grandmother an affectionate glance during the close of the weekend’s celebrations.

‘ My heart is with you all’ says the Queen after four days of ‘ Jubilee Celebrations End’ with Centenary of 10,000 people through the years of her reign

Daily Mail front page
The Daily Mail’s front page is almost entirely filled with an image of the beaming monarch, with the paper also headlining on her “poignant” tribute to the nation. The Mail says the weekend’s “magnificent celebrations” climaxed in “pageantry and parties for millions” across the UK.
Daily Express front page
The Daily Express is the third paper to lead with the Queen’s message to the public, placing an image of her from the balcony next to of a shot of thousands of people gathered outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate. It says her message of gratitude was “very personal” and notes she was “clearly overwhelmed by the public show of affection”.
Daily Telegraph front page
The Queen reaffirmed her “commitment to serve the nation” during the close of the Jubilee, the Daily Telegraph says. Britain’s longest-reigning monarch “gave the nation the most moving of finales” to the celebrations, despite being forced to miss much of the long weekend’s events over mobility issues, the paper reports.
Times front page
The Times reports that the Queen has set out the “future of the monarchy”, appearing with a “slimmed down” Royal Family to watch the end of the pageant. The paper says the monarch sent an “unspoken” message to the nation by appearing with her three heirs – Princes Charles, William and George – that “this is the future”.
Sun front page
“Thank you ma’am” is the Sun’s headline, with its opening line concluding: “What a wonderful weekend it was”. The paper goes on to describe the Queen’s reign as having “overseen more sweeping change over the past seven decades than anyone could have imagined”, adding that the celebrations represented a “confident and proud nation paying tribute its monarch”.
Daily Star front page
The Daily Star’s cheeky headline “Long to rain over us” referenced the unfortunately grim weather that hit much of the nation for the end of the Jubilee, threatening to put a dampener on the celebratory occasion. The paper says “soggy Brits” are likely to be affected by tropical storm Alex this week, following the poorly timed “downpours” that swept through on Sunday.
The i front page
Meanwhile, questions around the future of Prime Minister Boris Johnson have become “toxic” for the Conservative Party, according to the i. The paper reports Tory rebels are accusing the government whips of “blackmail and threats”, while the PM “fights for his political life” amid reports of an impending vote of no confidence in his leadership led by “mutinous backbenchers”.
Guardian front page.
The Guardian also leads on the possible challenge to the PM, reporting that his allies have privately accepted they have little chance of stopping Tory MPs from voting on whether to keep him in post. The paper says Mr Johnson plans to launch a “health and housing policy fightback” as a “last ditch attempt” to convince his internal critics to back him.
Financial Times front page
The value of private companies selling shares publicly for the first time, known as an initial public offering (IPO), has plummeted by 90% in the US and Europe so far this year, the Financial Times reports. The paper says the combination of the war in Ukraine and rising inflation and interests rates has”forced businesses to shelve plans to go public”, noting that 157 companies have raised just $17.9bn between January and May – compared to 629 firms generating $192bn in the same period in 2021.
BBC News Daily on Facebook Messenger

The front of the Daily Mail is filled with a close-up photo of the Queen from her appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The paper’s headline quotes her message to the public: “My heart has been with you all”.

Several other papers, including the Daily Mirror and Daily Express, also use the Queen’s words along with similar pictures.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Queen’s decision to greet well-wishers – despite having had to miss the previous two days of events – was “the most moving of finales” to the festivities.

It argues that “for all the pomp and pyrotechnics” of the four-day celebration, the Queen may have derived most pleasure from seeing people getting together to enjoy street parties across the UK.

The Times highlights the royals who appeared on the balcony with her – Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children.

“The implication of that line-up was unmistakable,” the paper suggests, adding: “This is the Crown, and these are the people who matter. Heir apparent, second in line, third in line.”

In a front page editorial, the Sun states simply: “What a wonderful weekend it was”.

The paper lists highlights of the four day celebration, including what it describes as “the Queen’s brilliant comic timing with Paddington” and the use of a hologram of her in the gold state coach during the Jubilee pageant.

It concludes that the “whole show was a triumph” and adds: “How thankful this country has been to be served with such dignity and duty for the past 70 years”.

The Daily Mail lifts the lid on how one of the best-loved moments of the weekend, the Queen’s appearance with Paddington, came about.

A source tells the paper the project was so secret that not even Prince Charles or Prince William knew about it, although “Her Majesty was involved from the start”.

The script came about through “mutual agreement on what would work best”, and the sequence was filmed at Windsor Castle in March.

The i leads on Prime Minister Boris Johnson, reporting that Conservative rebels have accused government whips of “blackmail and threats”, ahead of a possible confidence vote in his leadership.

An unnamed senior Tory is quoted saying the threats have been “horrific” and that some of the party’s MPs who won their seats in 2019 are “too afraid” to submit letters of no confidence.

The Guardian reports that Mr Johnson’s allies have now accepted such a vote will happen, and are focusing on making sure he wins it.

The paper has been told by a Downing Street source that the PM will not resign, even if he wins by only a narrow margin.

Finally, the Financial Times reveals that many UK drinkers seem to be losing their taste for stronger beers.

The paper reports sales of low or no-alcohol beers have almost doubled in the past five years – to more than £450m in 2021.

It’s partly the result of people becoming more health conscious, but also because improvements in technology mean the brewers can make the drinks taste better, the paper says.
