American Culture from a perspective of long-standing Race Discussions 🤔

Luc Alex Raphael Here’s a lovely quaint idea….take all indigenous cultures, strip them of their language, their stories and their very culture…forcibly “move’ them to concentration camps (reservations) force them into christian schools, starve them to death and THEN make it illegal for them to teach their own people about their culture….and now YOU want to assuage your guilt by teaching these folks about themselves, RATHER than supporting a native effort to train teachers, develop and support restoration of cultural identity programs and bring the education process back to original people who were fucking destroyed by our hands….? That’s your great compassionate idea….? I don’t think so…AND THE POST STANDS.

So the solution to teaching Native American culture or history (or the culture or history of any group of people for that matter, indigenous or not) is to reduce it to follow the same set of racist or bigoted parameters that caused the problem in the first place? Good grief.

It presents an interesting problem in the real world as there are a whole hell of a lot more schools and classrooms than there are Native American teachers. By the logic in that meme, most schools would be reduced to teaching little more than Scots-Irish history from the post-colonial Caucasian perspective. Surely that’s exactly what would be ideal to avoid.

But why stop there? Anthropologists shouldn’t be allowed to lecture on any culture they are not from or originally part of. I guess we can simply dismiss an epic amount of scientific literature and anthropological data that allows us to understand other cultures and subgroups. Simply because that information hasn’t come to us directly from a person who is a member of that culture, ethnicity or race.

Do you make more finite distinctions between race, ethnicity and culture/sub-culture? How far have you actually thought this out? It’s easy enough to bang together a meme and post it on Facebook or copypasta and come off as pithy. It’s quite another to actually think something through to its logical end.

How does your grand design apply to mixed race/culture kids? Would they be allowed to teach one subject (pick a parent) or both subjects based on their race/ethnicity or… neither. Why stop with race and ethnicity? Surely you could apply the same logic to class. Only people that were raised in a certain socioeconomic class would then be allowed to teach anyone else from that same socioeconomic class.

The irony is too rich, my family comes from northern New Mexico and southern Colorado and very much a part of the Na-Dené culture. Jicarilla to be exact. So frankly you’re preaching to the choir in terms of trying to break down all the injustices done. I get it. My family gets it… we’ve understood it from the very first day that the Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate and his men set foot in North America in 1598, in particular, the Province of Santa Fe de Nuevo México.I suspect the Na-Dené people would have a good chuckle at the absurdity of the meme.

Published Author 😁

No self-published author should publish their work without paying a professional to edit it first. Even if you’re hoping to traditionally publish your book, the agent or publisher will be looking for a polished sample that engages them with the story, not the several typos on page one alone.
But what if you don’t have the money to pay for an editor? Or what if you want to keep your costs down by doing as much editing on your own as you can? The better you can make your novel on your own, the better your editor can help you make it together. Think of it like football: Get the ball as far down the field as you can, then pass the ball to your editor. Together you can go for goal.
If you want people to actually read what you’ve written, you must master the art of ferociously self-editing your own manuscript.
These days, anyone can get anything printed. It doesn’t even have to be good. If you have the money, you can find someone who will print whatever you submit as is.
So you must separate yourself from the competition by ensuring your manuscript is the absolute best it can be.
Yes, a traditional publisher will have its own editors and proofreaders. But to even get that far, your manuscript has to be better than a thousand other submissions they receive per day. Can it do that?
And if you’re self-publishing, the only way to stand out against even more competition is by ferociously editing your own book until it’s as crisp and clean as possible – it has to be as professional as anything that big publisher who turned you down can churn out.
There’s little worse than a self-published book that looks like one.
So, You Must Learn How to Edit a Book
Whether you’re going to hire an editor, or hope to be assigned one by a traditional publisher, your responsibility is to get your book manuscript to the highest level it can be before you pass it on.
Never settle for, “That’s the best I can do; now fix it for me.”
Why should they?
Because sadly, if you attempt the traditional publishing route, you could pour your whole life into a manuscript and get no more than five minutes of an editor’s time before your book is rejected.
Sounds unfair, doesn’t it?
But as one who has been on both sides of the desk for more than two decades, let me tell you there are reasons for it:
Why Publishers Reject Your Manuscript After Reading Just Two Pages
Editors can tell within a page or two how much editing would be required to make a manuscript publishable; if it would take a lot of work in every sentence, the labor cost alone would disqualify it.
An editor can tell immediately whether a writer understands what it means to grab a reader by the throat and not let go.
Have too many characters been introduced too quickly?
Does the writer understand and utilize point of view?
Is the setting and tone interesting?
Do we have a sense of where the story is headed, or is there too much throat clearing? (This is a literary term for a chapter or story that starts with pages of description or scene setting but no actual action.)
Is the story subtle and evocative, or is it on-the-nose?
Yes, a professional editor can determine all this with a quick read of the first two to three pages. They want your story to stand out, and no amount of beautifully descriptive prose is going to hide the fact that you don’t have a sufficient plot.
If you find yourself saying, “But they didn’t even get to the good stuff,” then you need to put the good stuff earlier in your manuscript.
So today, I want to zero in on tight writing and self-editing. It will help you as a writer, and lower the costs when hiring a professional editor – after all, the less they have to do, the less they will charge.
If you’re ready to learn how to edit your own book before hiring a professional, take a look at my FREE self-editing guide that will take you through each aspect of your story, from plot, to characters, to sentence structure to point of view. The more boxes you can check for your manuscript, the leaner, meaner, and more ready it will be for submission to an editor, publisher or reader.

“STRAWBERRY FIELDS!”~ MYSTIC POET 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓

“STRAWBERRY FIELDS!” a poem April 9, 2019 [Tuesday]

It’s “The Mystic Poet,” Everyone! His-theme, is-it-quite-clear?
[Because – Doesn’t-he-repeat-it – year-a after year!?]
It REALLY is-not that profound! He just-says:-“Not to-fear,
Since we’re incompetently-programmed!! Oh-my-Oh-my-Oh-Dear,
God! [Is there really any [God] to appease?
Or appeal to – or for-to “shoot the breeze?”]

Perhaps, we might as well – RELAX – and try(?) to enjoy,
Our MASQUERADE-around-here as-part-of-“The-Real-McCoy,”
Which-is-just-“the-life-stream”-which we can’t comprehend,
And-what-we-think-we-see* – never com-eth to an end!**

Well, who knows? Who cares? DON’T BELIEVE ME! I’m not even “real,”
So I am not even writing this, and I think that our last meal,
Never was! So, why are you reading?
And why am I writing? and why are refugees bleeding?
Well, go ask Trump! or-Putin or-George,
W. Bush, who’s-maybe in Dallas (Texas), enjoying an ORG-
Y – or, perhaps, writing some historic[al] memoirs!

Anyway, IF you can, just take-a-pause,
And occasionally, smile and try not to fret,
Hold a lovely hand and cast aside regret!

“THE S WORD!”  a poem in the series: “Sally & Friends!”   April 9, 2019 SEXUAL [Tuesday!] ~ MYSTIC POET 💥

“THE S WORD!” a poem in the series: “Sally & Friends!” April 9, 2019 [Tuesday!]

We’re-all S – x – a L-creatures; it’s-just something we do,
And I am so-so-so-so-so at-tract-ed to-you!

Most of us are sniffing, looking through and through,
To-find that pretty something – that we are dra-awn to!

MOST FOLKS TRULY FEEL THAT WAY, IF-THEY-ARE-OK;
Healthy folks have S – -, some, 2-times a day!

So, IF you find your-libido – has just all gone away,
Perhaps, there is some sickness! So-here’s-what-I-gotta-say:

“Perhaps some medi-cation, that’s-‘spose-to-maintain your health,
Is messing with your body’s urges! Please listen to this ELF!
DRUGS ARE MAINLY POISON, CAUSING LIFE TO GO AWRY;
If-your-urges are-not-around, I’d ask the question WHY!”

S – – ! It is quite na-tural, despite religious views,
And-many-religious-leaders – like-us-to-amuse,
Ourselves with doctor visits – hospitals and pills,
Tonics-lotion-and-many notions! So, if-you’ve-lost-your-thrills,
Of-looking-at and being-close – to pretty-people a-round,
Well, S-xY Sally’s a jealous mistress! She’ll put you in “The Ground!”

“Studies Show That A Person Truly In Love Is Fearless And Can Face Anything, But True Love Is Not Something You Strive For; It Just Happens!  ~ Whew!” MYSTIC POET 💥

“I JUST WANNA!” another poem, inspired by the face of a 16-year old genius! 4-9-2019 (Tuesday) a.k.a.: “Studies Show That A Person Truly In Love Is Fearless And Can Face Anything, But True Love Is Not Something You Strive For; It Just Happens! Whew!”

    SO CONFIDENT!
    SO CERTAIN!
    SO FRAGILE!
    SO DEAR!

    When-I-gaze-in-your-face, I-MUST shed-me a tear!

    We’re-all: MAGNIFICENT,
    BEAUTIFUL!
    and-potentially-KIND!
    Yet, we-don’t-give-a-“r – t’s – s s,” for-we-really-don’t-“mind,”
    UNTIL TRUE-LOVE-“HITS”-US (pause) ‘SQUARE IN-THE-EYES,”
And a floodgate of waiting – and yearning – just flies,
Out from these tear ducts, for we’re ‘flooded’ with “God,”
    Which-is love-hope-and-safety! My-but Isn’t-that-“odd,”
When wars, rape and hatred are always in fashion!
    Mass-murders-and-genocide bring-teeth which are gnashin’,
    Always waiting-for-blood, exploitation and crime!
    How can this happen, when-your-sweet-love’s-“mine!”

The Sweet-God-of-Existence never-laughs at such torment,
For (s)he is EXPERIENCING all-this torture and foment!
    [Is-there-need-for-such-suffering? We-keep coming back!]
    Perhaps-’cause -TRUE-LOVE-can’t-exist with-out-BLACK,
    STATES-OF-DISAPPOINTMENT, HEART-ACHE & PAIN!
So, is-it all worth it? or-are-we-[totally]-inane?

The movie reel REELS, and we-are-awe-stuck!
    I-gaze-gently-in-your-eyes, just wanting to – – – – !
    Men love to do it; women – – – – for love;
I’m sure there’s no God in no Heaven above!
However, what-do-I-know! I-just gaze in your eyes!
    “You’re my f – – – – – !” [S]HE says! Must-be-true, for-I rise!
    🙂 – I’ve waited a lifetime, a lifetime for YOU! I-can-wait-a-little-longer! It’s just what I do!
