Words matter !
It is not “child pornography,”
it is CHILD EXPLOITATION MATERIAL,
or CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL,
or even EVIDENCE OF CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT!
Stop minimising the harm that abuse does to our children !
It is 2019 and WE still have to endure the mainstream media and others, getting it all wrong, over and over again when it comes to reporting assaults, rape, domestic violence and child abuse!!!
UNDERAGE WOMAN, CHILD PROSTITUTE, SEX WITH MINOR, NON CONSENSUAL SEX, CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!!
I will mainly talk about children in this post.
Can everyone, just for a minute, put yourself in an abused child’s shoes and imagine how they feel when these headlines and reporting are made about their ordeal? Children that were raped, violated, degraded, traumatised, hurt, battered, kidnapped, stalked just to point to a few horrific experiences a child may have endured.
How dare the media and ignorant people refer to a child victim as an UNDERAGE WOMAN, really?
Where does that stupidity and disrespect come from?
A child is a child.
They are not underage when it comes to SEX. Children cannot consent
THEY HAVE BEEN RAPED !
Again, children cannot consent.
They just don’t wake up one day and want to do sex work. They are violated, punished, kidnapped and used to make money and satisfy perverts, paedophiles and rapists sick desires. Look at it only as that, it is like the media want to water down the trauma of victims.
The courts do the same thing with their use of language when dealing with rape and sexual assaults of children.
SEX WITH A MINOR!!
When writing about sexual abuse, violation, assaults. How can one even put both of those words together, when reporting or talking about minors?
Sex is about consent, mind you.
A minor cannot consent. That’s RAPE!!
Our biggest pet peeve of all is the use of the words “CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!!”
Since FACAA started back in 2010, we have campaigned to use the words “CHILD ABUSE IMAGES.” Which thankfully, mainstream media did get a hold of and some changes have been made, but still we have a long way to go when it comes to people discussing this topic, and when it is reported internationally.
Language is very important for victims and survivors. We want them to feel validated, respected and believed, for what abuse really is. Abuse is abhorrent, traumatic and horrible.
It is not pleasurable.
It is not consensual sex!!!!
We need to protect our children from abuse, not label them and put them in a category of sex, pleasure and consent!!
The truth needs to be told of their experiences. Not to be watered down and disrespected.
It is 2019. Do your bit and correct people, correct the journo’s, correct the media.
Do it for our children (KD)
If you see something in the media that crosses these lines, call them out on it !
Say, “Hey Channel X this isn’t good enough it is not “child pornography,” do not imply that children can give consent.”
If you do not like their reply screen shot it and send it to us and we will take up your mantle !
