The Masks We Wear

Every day, we put on masks.
Some to protect ourselves,
Some to hide our pain,
And some to show the world
What it expects to see.

Behind the smiles may lie silent battles
Behind the strength, unspoken fears,
And behind the calm, a storm
waiting to be heard.

We wear masks not because we are false,
But because the world is not always ready
To see us in our most valid form.

Yet, the soul longs for spaces
Where masks are not needed,
Where hearts can be bare.
And where truth can finally breathe.
