Once upon a time in a distant land, there lived a brave knight and a mighty dragon. The dragon had three heads, each with its own name: Me, Mine, and More. The knight understood the danger this dragon represented, but the people around him didn’t believe it could truly harm them. They ignored the beast, unaware that every day it was growing stronger and more devastating, until one day it could no longer be ignored. The dragon had three heads with three different names: Thev were called Me, Mine, and More. The knight knew the danger that this dragon posed, but no one in this land believed it could harm them. The people ignored the beast, unaware that every day it was
growing in strength and devastating power, until one day it could be ignored no longer. The dragon attacked! It burned down their houses and destroyed their village. The knight knew what he must do; he must slay the three-headed dragon of Me, Mine and More. The dragon called More is rarely satisfied, EVER! The only way to slay it is to say, “NO MORE!” and to be content with what we have. You must declare the freedom we have in Christ by repeating what Paul proclaimed in 1 Corinthians 6:12: “I will not be mastered by
anything”. This is basically a declaration of Independence; a separation from the things that cling to our flesh and satisfy the desires that separate us from God. The Greek word Paul uses for “mastered” is “Exousia”, which can be translated as “power” in the New Testament. It is a unique form of power. It is the power to not do what you are able to do. It is the power to say no, or more accurately, in the context of slaying the three-headed dragon of Me,
Mine and More – It is us saying “NO MORE” to the more. It is our ability to discipline ourselves and strengthen ourselves in the Lord. This ability to discipline ourselves is similar to strengthening our physical muscles. The more we exercise, the stronger we get. If Paul were to sit us down today, put his arm around us, and give us a pep talk, he would say this: step out and away from sin, resolve not to be mastered by anything. Flee from any form of immorality. Instead, step into the purpose of God and live victoriously in Christ. We cannot resolve to exercise our will and expect to be delivered on our own. The holy Spirit promises to come alongside and help us in our weaknesses. Remember, true freedom is not found in the external freedoms to gratify our every appetite, it is the internal
freedom not to be enslaved by our appetites. Knew the danger that this dragon posed, but no one in this land believed it could harm them. The people ignored the beast, unaware that every day it was
