Today, we celebrate the vibrant and diverse landscape of Christianity! While it’s perfectly natural for different denominations to emerge—as long as each one joyfully shares the Good News of Jesus—we face an exciting challenge when those identifying as “Christian” promote a gospel that wanders from this amazing truth. Just as Jesus passionately engaged with the Jewish leaders of his time, we encounter today’s fellow believers who may be hesitant to fully embrace the richness of his message.
Paul beautifully reminds us of our unity: “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One Lord of All.” This unity inspires us to reflect on the diversity of views regarding baptism. If the Lord is sovereign over all, what sparks the feeling that some hold a more extraordinary connection to Him than others?
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul addresses their divisions with a heartwarming reminder, highlighting phrases like, “I am of Paul, and I am of Apollos.” He emphasises that our true identity is found in baptism into Christ, which should unite us in love and faith. Ultimately, it’s about the beautiful relationship we share with Him. Let’s enthusiastically strive to foster unity and collaboration in our shared faith as we work toward overcoming any divisions among those blessed to be baptised into Christ Jesus, our Lord!
