AceBreakingNews – Homicide squad detectives are investigating the deaths by poisoning of three people at Leongatha, in South Gippsland.

Four people were taken to hospital with suspected poisoning on July 30 after becoming ill after eating a meal the previous day.

The Department of Health has confirmed mushrooms were involved and there is no public health risk.

Police said a 66-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman, both from Korumburra, died in hospital on August 4.

A third person, a 70-year-old man, died in hospital on August 5.

A 68-year-old man remains in hospital. 

Victoria Police said officers executed a search warrant at a property in Leongatha yesterday.

Detectives interviewed a 48-year-old Leongatha woman who has been released pending further enquiries.

Victoria Police said the exact circumstances are being investigated.

The Department of Health said its investigations are ongoing.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the patients’ family for their loss,” a spokesperson said.
