#AceDailyNews says here’s todays Newspaper Headlines: Its still all about ‘ Queen Lying In State ‘ as people queue for hours just to pay their respects over next 5 days before ‘ State Funeral ‘ on Monday Kindness & Love XX gives Solemn 🙏🙏’s Amen

An image of queues of people lining up outside Westminster Hall to see coffin surrounded by the royals and guards.
The front pages share pictures and details of the Queen lying in state in Westminster Hall, after her coffin was taken there in a royal procession on Wednesday. Members of the public are now able to pay their respects over four days, with the i describing it as the nation’s “long goodbye”. The paper reports that tens of thousands of people lined the Mall and Whitehall to catch a glimpse of the procession.
Kate, the Princess of Wales and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, stand close as their husbands William and Harry are pictured standing together.
The Daily Star dedicates the majority of its front page to Princes William and Harry – standing “shoulder to shoulder (for a day at least)”, as their respective wives Catherine and Meghan looked on solemnly. The paper wonders whether there will now be “lasting peace” between the couples following speculation about tensions over the past few years. Elsewhere on the cover, the news that McDonald’s will be closed on the day of the Queen’s funeral is bound to catch many people’s attention.

The Daily Mail also gives a poignant look at the Queen lying in state as people “bid solemn farewells”. Their front page story details how mourning people filed past the coffin to pay their respects to the Queen. The first person to see the monarch’s coffin is reported to have camped out since Monday.
The Daily Express dedicates a whole front page to a powerful image of mourners standing in long lines to take a look at the Queen's coffin. The top story looks at how the Royal Family united in a solemn display, while thousands of people queued overnight to see the royal matriarch. In a further update, King Charles III is now set to take a day to himself on Thursday at his Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire.
The Daily Express similarly dedicates a whole front page to a powerful image of mourners standing in long lines to pay their respects to the Queen.

The Metro takes a slightly different approach to the royal coverage with a front page story exploring the Queen’s crown on top of her coffin. The purple Imperial State Crown seen on the coffin in the pictures is different to the Crown of Scotland, which was placed on Her Majesty’s coffin while in Edinburgh. The paper says the Imperial State Crown was originally made for the coronation of George VI in 1937 by jewellers Garrard & Company. And the Queen wore the crown herself following her Coronation in 1953.
The paper's main picture highlights the pain etched on the faces of Prince William, Kate, the Princess of Wales, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as they continue their mourning.
The Daily Mirror also angles on King Charles III’s two sons, Princes William and Harry, taking part in the procession of the Queen’s coffin on Wednesday. The paper’s main picture highlights the pain etched on the royals’ faces as they continue their mourning. The front page also predicts one million people could pay their respects over the next few days.
The Sun shows an image of Princes William and Harry, as well as their wives Kate and Meghan, looking solemn, with a smaller image of King Charles also looking bereft.
The Sun leads on the same picture but adds, “we share your pain” in a heartfelt message to the Royal Family as they join the rest of the nation in saying goodbye to the Queen. It describes the faces of Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as their wives Kate and Meghan, as being “etched in grief” as they watched the emotional lying-in-state ceremony. The front page goes on to say there are 30 pages of royal coverage inside.
The Queen's family members salute (apart from Prince Harry) as they pay their respects to the Queen's coffin in their military uniforms.
The “wait is over” for the nation to pay its respects to the Queen, say the Times. It describes Wednesday’s procession during which military bands played funeral marches as the King and members of the Royal Family walked behind the coffin. The paper adds the King was united with his sons – it was the first time all three were pictured together since the Queen died last week.
The Daily Telegraph shares a similar picture to other papers of the Queen's coffin being taken into Westminster Hall. But it also prints a picture of crowds waiting near Big Ben and Houses of Parliament in the sunset.
The Daily Telegraph shares a similar picture to other papers of the Queen’s coffin being taken into Westminster Hall. But it also prints a picture of crowds waiting near Big Ben and Houses of Parliament in the sunset.
The Guardian has a picture of King Charles looking at his mother's coffin.
The Guardian says the Queen knew her destiny was to lie in state on the same spot her father King George VI did when he died in 1952, as well as her grandfather, and great grandfather before that. The Guardian also splits its front page with a haunting description of the Russian occupation of the town of Izium in Ukraine, which was recaptured by Ukrainian forces last weekend.
The FT has a picture of the Royal Family walking behind the Queen's coffin.
The Financial Times has three main stories on its front page. The first is the Royal Family escorting the Queen’s coffin in procession to Westminster Hall. The second reveals Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng is seeking to end the UK’s cap on bankers’ bonuses in a bid to boost the City of London’s “global competitiveness”. And there is also a story about US shale chiefs warning they cannot save Europe with increased oil and gas supplies as the continent faces a worrying winter.

Without exception, the papers all focus on the start of the Queen’s lying-in-state, with a number of titles choosing to use full-page photographs – and few words – to report yesterday’s events on their front pages.

Metro features the procession taking the Queen from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster, with the Imperial State Crown placed on top of her coffin in sharp focus in the centre of the image. “Our jewel, her crown”, it says.

The Daily Mail also has a single photo, showing the coffin in place at Westminster Hall, guarded by a soldier bowing his head in respect. “She lies at peace as her people bid solemn farewells”, says the headline.

The front page of the Daily Express highlights the scale and grandeur of the occasion, with the Queen’s coffin towards the bottom of an image that includes the magnificent hammer-beam roof of Westminster Hall.

On its wraparound, the Times shows members of the First Battalion Grenadier Guards carefully laying the regiment’s flag on the steps leading up to the coffin, in what it says was their last act before becoming the King’s Company. The paper has the headline, “Her Crown And Glory” – as well as a quote by the Queen from September 2001, when she responded to the terror attacks on New York by saying, “grief is the price we pay for love”.

The same image – of the Prince and Princess of Wales, standing at Westminster Hall ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – dominates the front page of both the Daily Mirror and the Sun.

The Mirror notes the “pride and the pain” that was felt by the Royal Family as they mourned the Queen “amid scenes of pageantry” – while the Sun says their faces were “etched with grief” as they looked on at an “emotion-filled” ceremony.

The Daily Telegraph says the royals “carried their grief with dignity” for six long days before passing the Queen’s coffin from their care to the public – “as the greatest lying-in-state spectacle in living memory begins”.

“They opened the weir gates just after five o’clock and the flow began”, says the Times – describing the moment when people who had queued for days began filing past the Queen’s coffin.

The first mourners allowed into Westminster Hall have told the Guardian how they were overcome with emotion as they paid their respects – several say they were “fighting back tears” at what one describes as a “shattering and incredibly upsetting” experience.

The i reports that a tourist from Minnesota said it was the “honour of a lifetime” to be the first American through – adding that he described the scene as “very understated, elegant, regal and perfect”.

Several papers echo those thoughts in their editorials. “A triumph of sad splendour”, says the Sun – “flawless and magnificent”.

The Daily Mirror acknowledges a “display of precision-perfect pageantry” – while the Daily Express says the huge crowds were “every bit as breath-taking as a Red Arrows flypast”.

“In a highly-charged week of memorable, heart-breaking and sombre moments”, says the Daily Mail, “yesterday was perhaps the most remarkable. Even in a country with a history as long, distinguished and glorious as ours, barely a day can have pulsated with such intensity and emotion.”
