#AceNewsDesk – The UK has been over the last week, but that’s just the beginning of what could be a record-breaking heatwave.

As the Met Office , some have forecasted that the – which would become the hottest day ever on our shores.

But until that fateful temperature arrives, what is the current UK record?

Her is everything you need to know.

The highest temperature ever recorded in the United Kingdom was 38.7°C, which was recorded in Cambridge back in 2019.

Week ahead weather: Met Office issues amber warning for extreme heat

The recording was taken at the University of Cambridge Botanic Garden – which houses a Met Office climate observation site reporting every 24 hours.

The record held before this was set on August 10, 2003, at Brogdale near Faversham in Kent, with a temperature of 38.5°C.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Rebekah Sherwin said of the current heatwave: ‘Temperatures are likely to peak at 33°C in the southeast, with warm weather likely to continue throughout this week and it looks likely to ramp up late this week and into early next week.’  

‘From Sunday and into Monday, temperatures are likely to be in excess of 35°C in the southeast, although the details still remain uncertain.

‘Elsewhere, temperatures could be fairly widely above 32°C in England and Wales, and in the mid-to-high 20s°C further north.’

What is the hottest temperature ever recorded in the world?

The hottest day in the world, according to the Guinness World Records, was recorded at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California.

A midnboggling temperature of 56.7°C (134°F) was recorded at the location on 10 July, 1913.
