The few office workers who did make it in were left stranded inside while a drainage pump cleared the road.
It follows a day of downpours that flooded London’s streets and brought an early close to England’s Test match against South Africa at Lord’s.
Some shops and platforms at Victoria Station had to close after flooding at the main entrance left water running down a slope leading towards the eastern concourse.
One heroic gentleman was spotted valiantly tackling the downpours outside King’s Cross – winning our hearts in the process.
London’s Almeida theatre evacuated mid-performance after rain busts through roof
The Almeida theatre in Islington, north London, also had to cancel a matinee performance as water leaked through the roof.



Footage from the venue showed audience members evacuating after the opening hour of Peter Morgan’s new play Patriots.
Gatwick Airport also warned of delays and cancellations to some flights as air traffic control restrictions were imposed across the south of England and parts of Europe due to poor weather.
The Met Office’s yellow thunderstorm warning for Kent and Medway ended earlier today, but parts of London are still at risk of flooding.




The Environment Agency has nine flood alerts in place across the capital and the south, stating that ‘flooding is possible’.
Up to two inches of rain could fall in a few hours in these affected areas, with drivers urged to take care on the roads.
Today will be damp in Northern Ireland and western Scotland as rain pushes eastwards.
It will stay cloudy across southeast England and brighter for parts of Wales and central England.
