The Halloween Princess

“THE HALLOWEEN*** PRINCESS!” a poem July 19 2019

ADORA*-was-born with-the-name-of-a-princess, so you-know she-wears a crown,

And-she’s-ADORned-with-a sequin-diamond-dress, silver-‘n’-gold-all-around!

Her “regal” smile so betrays – The-“Blue-Blood”-which-through-her-veins-doth-flow,

So, to-our-princess, the men folk clammer – for to-her they-wish to-go,

To-be-close and-to-gently-feel – Her-royal-warm -ma- jest – y!

I-love-her-and-love – to-say her-name – when-we-have -a-fine-“High-Tea,”**

Where-she-is-presented in her beauty! for everyone to see!

Her-eyes-have-mascara, my-lovely-Adora,

During-Hallowed’s***-festi-vi-ty!

  • – “Adora” is from The Greek, meaning, gift, treasure, adored, beloved . . .

** – High (or Afternoon) Tea, observed in some genteel cultures, preciously highlighted in this blog, is also known as ‘low tea,’ and is what most people think of when they hear the term “HIGH TEA.” It involves manners, lace, and dainty foods. It is typically served in the mid-afternoon, traditionally served on low tables, hence its two names. An afternoon tea menu is light and focuses on scones, finger sandwiches. Marmalade, lemon curds, and herbed butter may also be included. Favorite teas include Earl Grey and Assam as well as chamomile and mint. Historically, a high tea was a working class meal, served on HIGH tables, after 5:00 P. M. Historically, afternoon tea was considered to be a ladies’ social occasion, and it is more often enjoyed by women than men to this day. The Seventh Duchess of Bedford Anna Maria Russell is thought to have started this tradition, so all the ladies could have a mid-afternoon snack and “chat” a bit!

*** – All Hallows’ Eve = Halloween, The Eve of All Hallows’ or All Saints’ Day!

Pictures: of The Seventh Duchess of Bedford – and – showing her “sitting room,” often called: The Blue Room! very elegante! 🙂 – “Anna,” [or Hannah] is from The Hebrew, meaning: favor, grace, purity, beauty . . .
