The “Be More Like Betty” mural located in the 7700 block of Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax District was created to honor White’s work with animal rescue groups.

The mural, which took 15 hours to complete by artist Corie Mattie, includes a QR code that fans can scan and then donate directly to Wagmor Pets, a Studio City dog rescue that White worked with.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will be on hand for a tribute to White at 9:45 a.m. at the L.A. Zoo. White was a longtime supporter of the zoo. The tribute will be held at the Allen Ludden Plaza, named for White’s late husband. White supported the L.A. Zoo for more than five decades.

Meanwhile, Pink’s Hot Dogs and Madame Tussauds are also honoring White. Fans can stop by Pink’s and purchase the famous “Betty White Naked Hot Dog,” with all proceeds going to the L.A. Zoo. For any donation amount, meanwhile, fans can also take a picture with White’s wax figure at Tussauds.

White died on Dec. 31 at the age of 99. “The Golden Girls” actress had the longest-running career in television history as a woman, having starred in shows since 1939.

Support For Animal Shelters Encouraged On Late Star’s 100th Birthday

January 17, 2022 at 10:37 am

BOSTON (CBS) — Legendary actress and comedian Betty White would have turned 100 years old on Monday.

When she died in late December, the “Golden Girls” star was remembered not just for her groundbreaking career, but also for being an animal lover and activist.

“The Betty White Challenge” took off on social media. It encourages people to donate $5 to animal shelters and animal rescues in honor of the late actress.

Local animal shelters in the Boston area are feeling the love.

“Even if it’s $5, and we’ve seen that come in all the way to $100 or more, but you know, the money adds up,” Baypath Human Society of Hopkinton Executive Director Elizabeth Jefferis told WBZ-TV last week. “We can get a rabies vaccine for $5, or a microchip.”

MSPCA-Angell has seen thousands of dollars in donations roll in recently.

Help support the cause that was near and dear to Betty White’s heart by donating at https://t.co/1Zuz3eyF18. Your gift will go toward the care and feeding of thousands of animals in our care! 🐶 🐱

“Thanks to this movement, we’ve been getting requests from our community on how they can help the animals here in Massachusetts in her memory,” the organization says. “Help us honor her memory by providing kindness and care for animals with a gift today.”

Visit the MSPCA-Angell’s website and the Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton’s website for more information, or check out a shelter near you for donation options.

(AUSTRALIA) In LOVING MEMORY Report: The sheepherder couldn’t attend his aunt’s funeral, so he made her a huge heart out of hundreds of sheep—and captured it all from above-using drone footage #AceNewsDesk report

#AceNewsReport – Aug.30: A sheep farmer in Australia found an artistic way to share his feelings after his aunt died by creating a huge heart featuring hundreds of pregnant ewes. Ben Jackson of New South Wales used a drone to video the scene so it could be played at her funeral in Brisbane, which the sheep farmer could not attend because of a #COVID19 lockdown.

Sheep Heart

The sheepherder couldn’t attend his aunt’s funeral, so he made her a huge heart out of hundreds of sheep—and captured it all from above using drone footage:

Expressing grief after the loss of a loved one is challenging. It can also be a creative outlet.

“At those times of grief, you feel really helpless, you don’t know what to do, what to say,” Jackson tells Royce Kurmelovs of the Guardian. “Especially in these Covid times, no one can prepare for that border-closure grief, not being able to say cheerio or be there when she passes. It’s pretty difficult.”

Jackson had planned to attend his Auntie Debby’s funeral in Queensland, about 250 miles away, a few days ago. However, the border between the neighboring states was closed to restrict travel because of a coronavirus outbreak.

Frustrated by this turn of events, Jackson decided to show his sorrow through “sheep art,” a technique he has been experimenting with on his farm in Gurya, New South Wales. A few years ago, he started spelling the names of his favorite bands using grain dropped from the back of a truck, reports Rod McGuirk of the Associated Press (AP).

After spreading the feed, the farmer opened the gate to the large pasture and allowed scores of hungry, mostly-pregnant ewes to enter and begin munching away. He captured heart-shaped scene on video, which was later posted on social media. He included her favorite song—Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”—for a soundtrack.

“It took me a few goes to get it right … and the final result is what you see,” Jackson tells AP. “That was as close to a heart as I could get it.”

Jackson was upset he couldn’t visit Auntie Debby before she died after her two-year battle with cancer. When he found out going to the funeral wasn’t possible either, he decided to send her a sign of his love and affection, reports Frances Man of BBC News.

“I just hope that when I did it, she was having a peep through the clouds and was able to see it,” Jackson says to a local TV station.

The sheep farmer is surprised by the attention his heart-shaped gesture has received. The video has had more than a million views in Australia and the story has been covered by news media around the globe.

“She would be proud as punch to see so many people smiling and enjoying the heart I’ve made for her,” Jackson tells BBC News. “It’s just love. Love’s sensational.”
