For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor; If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, forever and ever.

In going astray and committing wickedness before the Lord, Judah, Jeremiah says, “walked after other gods to their hurt. ” False religions, fake philosophies, and erroneous ideas about God all tend to hurt the one holding to them. Not only do they offend God and bring judgment, but they wreak havoc in the lives of those following such false beliefs.

O Fountain of Living Waters, you are the source of all our true joy and the only legitimate object of our worship. How can we leave you? for where would we go? who else has the Words of eternal life? Your Word gives life through your Spirit, and all the idols of the nations do nothing but ensnare men in the carefully planted traps of Satan. Help us amend our ways and learn to both know you and love you more. Amen.

Maybe you may need to hear this right know 😌

This passage points out that faith is a gift.

“No one can come to me unless the Father draw him.”

Faith comes from God.

It is not something we do for ourselves.

God plants the seed, Jesus provides all we need to let that seed develop and grow, what we need to do is use the nutrients that Jesus has provided and nurture the seed within us until it becomes a full grown plant and flowers.

You see that there are two parts here. It is not enough that we have heard from the Father, it is necessary to have learned from him as well and have then turned to Jesus.

Jesus is speaking here to a group of people who are having problems accepting him, and in some ways are excusing those who cannot believe. He has even asked them if his teaching had shaken their faith.

Sometimes, our faith can be shaken, and like the disciples we must decide.

Once the decision is made, we have further responsibilities because Jesus expects this faith that has flowered within us to reach out to nourish the faith of others.

Remember, only God plants the seed, but it needs to be fed and watered and since we already know where to find that in Jesus, we need to share.

Persecution 😌

Belief in Christ does not mean that we will be free of problems including persecution.

Persecution of Christians begins here with the stoning of Stephen and continues to today.

You will notice that Saul was doing a lot of the persecution.

He believed that he was doing what God wanted.

That’s been one of the problems with persecution also from the beginning.

We think of the Roman persecution of Christians, but what of persecution of one Christian group against another as in Northern Ireland, of the persecution of Jews and Christians during the Holocaust, or in the boardrooms of businesses and the neighborhoods of some of our cities today.

Persecution goes on, often in very subtle ways. But overt or subtle, this is not the will of God.

Saul came to realize that he was not doing God’s will.

The Romans failed to stop the spread of the Christian church.

And one of the positive effects of destroying the church in Jerusalem was that the disciples and others who fled carried the gospel message to more diverse areas of the world.

Instead of Christianity being a religion of an isolated part of the Roman Empire, it flowed forward until it covered the earth.

My Lord πŸ‘‘

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: ✨

And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Glory πŸ’₯

The heart will lie to us.

The Bible says that the heart is wicked.

We can’t always count on it to do the right thing.

At the same time, the Bible tells us that everything we say flows from our heart.

It is impossible for us to rely on our hearts to do the right thing, unless they are pure.

In order to know that, we must ask God to search our hearts, with the strongest possible searchlight.

He alone can see the truth in our hearts.

He can show us any evil leanings or hurtful intents.

This is a task that we are simply not up to.

Only God can purify our hearts.

Dear Lord, search my heart.

Cast out any impurities You find there.

Any wickedness or deceit.

Any desire to hurt others.

Make my heart whole and pure.

Help me hold only love in my heart all of my days.
