Russia authorities won’t say where they have moved Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny: ‘As one of President Vladimir Putin’s most prominent critics, was moved from jail in Moscow last month to serve out a sentence of about two-and-a-half years’ TASS says Alexey Navalny transferred to Pokrov penal colony after quarantine period according to a source https://tass.com/society/1265449
The blogger will spend slightly over 2.5 years in the colony
And, once again, @navalny’s whereabouts are unknown. This morning, his lawyer arrived at the detention facility where he had be held. For hours, he got the runaround from officials. Finally, at 2pm, he was told that Navalny was not longer there. #lawlessness https://t.co/mIscvlyPLS

Vadim Kobzev, one of Mr Navalny’s lawyers, said he had visited his client on Thursday, but that another lawyer had tried to see him on Friday only to be told that Mr Navalny had been moved somewhere else.
“The prison said he wasn’t there and that’s it,” Mr Kobzev told Reuters, adding that Mr Navalny was in good health when he had visited him a day earlier.
Citing laws on protecting personal information, a spokeswoman for the Federal Penitentiary Service said she could not disclose information on Mr Navalny’s whereabouts.
Mr Navalny, 44, was arrested in January on his return from Germany following treatment for poisoning with what many Western countries said was a nerve agent.
The Kremlin has denied any involvement in what had happened to him, questioned whether he had really been poisoned, and suggested the whole thing may have been staged.
Mr Navalny was jailed last month for violating parole on what he said were trumped-up charges.
The court ruling was derided by Western nations as being politically motivated.
Mr Navalny was initially held at the Kolchugino jail in the Vladimir region north-east of Moscow.
Russia’s TASS news agency, citing a law enforcement source, reported at the time that Mr Navalny was being held there for quarantine before being moved to the IK-2 penal colony, also in the Vladimir region.
Western countries have called for his release, and the United States and European Union have imposed sanctions against Moscow over the case.
Navalny no stranger to stints in jail
Mr Navalny was in 2014 convicted on criminal charges of embezzlement and later fraud, and was given suspended sentences of five years and three-and-a-half years.
His suspended sentence carried a probationary period that was set to expire in December 2020 and in the final days of Mr Navalny’s probation period, Russia’s prison service put him on a wanted list, accusing him of not appearing for these checks, including when he was convalescing in Germany.
He has also served multiple stints in jail for charges relating to leading protests.
Mr Navalny sought to challenge Mr Putin in the 2018 election, but one of his convictions prevented him from running.
In 2017, an attacker threw a green antiseptic liquid in his face, damaging his sight, and he was hospitalised in 2019 after a suspected poisoning while in jail.
Then, in August last year, he fell ill while on a domestic flight in Siberia, and the pilot landed quickly in Omsk, where he was hospitalised.
His supporters managed to have him flown to Berlin, where he lay in a coma for over two weeks and was diagnosed as having been poisoned by a Soviet-era nerve agent — an allegation the Kremlin has denied.
