“PERFECT MEMORY!” a poem for the last day of August, the 31st of Aug. 2019!
“PERFECT! 38 Double-D’s!!! ” my friend kept whispering to me throughout dinner!
I WISHED – he’s SHUT-UP Isn’t it obvious? – He’s-a big, ol’ sinner!
(I thought) “I wish he’d get his mind on something else and let me eat my steak!”
However, it WAS kind of hard to avoid looking over there, in his girlfriend Rebecca’s direction, for goodness’ sake!
“That guy!” I thought; “he’s the smartest guy I’ve ever met,”
As he whispers: ” ‘The Who!’ ‘Mama’s Got A Squeeze Box!’ 1975! You were 21!”
And I’m [just a-bit] upset,
So, we’re just sitting there, and I’m trying to eat!
“I’ve-been-sober X-days-Y-weeks-Z-months-and-so-many-years!-Ain’t-that-neat?”
(pause)
“And CELIBATE!! Celibate, not quite that long:
BUT – X years, Y months, Z weeks – and – ABCD days strong!
“JUST YOU WAIT,” I thought, with evil intent,
“I’m cuttin’ out your tongue after dinner, BUT (I know) it WOULDN’T MAKE A DENT!
My friend, with a photographic memory, will-just LEARN TO “SIGN,”
And, with his hands, THEN he’ll be driving me crazy like that!
I don’t know WHY I whine,
AS I LISTEN TO THE INCESSANT BABBLE OF A THOUSAND-1000 DAYS,
His photographic memory – has simply got me “in a haze,”
BUT! for God’s sake, the guy is just so darned clever – and SWEET,
A master carpenter – and mechanic! and his culinary skills, you just can’t beat!
“D cup!!! Maybe C! Si! Si! I gotta get me a Mexican Bride!
The smartest person I know,
TAKING ME ON ANOTHER, AMAZING, PHOTOGRAPHIC RIDE!

When you never die and don’t go to Heaven, at all-your-memories you’ll have to stare! Try to make real good ones while you’re hangin’ around here! That way, at the end of some days, you won’t have to shed even one-sad-tear!}
