Individuals with high cognitive abilities often grapple with profound existential dilemmas, which can lead to patterns of addiction. These compulsions emerge as coping mechanisms, facilitating an escape from the burdensome consciousness accompanying heightened intelligence. The acute awareness of humanity’s inherent flaws can foster a pervasive sense of isolation and engender resentment.

There’s a palpable frustration in recognising that many individuals remain oblivious to the pervasive, corrosive influences shaping societal norms. This cognitive dissonance can evoke feelings akin to being an adult in a room full of children, where meaningful discourse becomes rare. Consequently, an inclination to engage in self-destructive behaviour arises, as one might seek to dull their acute perceptions to assimilate into the broader social landscape, mitigating the disorientation caused by the cognitive divide.

However, perpetuating this cycle ultimately impedes personal growth and fulfilment. To transcend these self-imposed limitations, one must cultivate resilience in navigating the isolating experience often associated with intellectual advancement. The reluctance to diverge from the collective norm can result in chronic self-sabotage driven by a fear of solitude. Yet, the necessity of embarking on the solitary journey of critical thought must be recognised. Over time, this pursuit can lead to the discovery of like-minded individuals, but only through the initial act of stepping away from the conformist herd.
