One of Gurrumul’s favourite bands was Dr Hook. He loved so many of their songs including one day when we picked him up he put a CD in the car and blasted the song called “Jungle To The Zoo”.
He wasn’t really into photo shoots but I’ve never seen him move more quickly than when he got a message from us saying Rolling Stone wanted him on the cover. He was on the plane to Sydney pretty soon after that, and halfway there started singing the Dr Hook “Cover of the Rolling Stone” song quietly and then laughing. He’d made it to Dr Hook status he reckoned.
