#AceNewsDesk – Priscilla Presley, rock’n’roll legend Elvis Presley’s ex-wife, has filed a legal challenge to the validity of their late daughter’s will.
Lisa Marie Presley, the couple’s only child, died two weeks ago at the age of 54 after a cardiac arrest.
The court petition disputes a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will that ousted Priscilla as the estate trustee.
The document misspelled her mother’s name and had a signature that appeared unusual, Ms Presley’s lawyers argue.
In a filing to the Los Angeles Superior Court, lawyers for the 77-year-old said that she only became aware of the “purported 2016 amendment” after Lisa Marie’s death.
Replacing her as trustee would mean she was no longer overseeing her daughter’s assets.
It is not clear how much that estate is worth, but various lawsuits in recent years suggest Lisa Marie’s finances were in turmoil, according to the BBC’s US partner, CBS News.
The amendment to her will that is now in question removes her mother and her former business manager, Barry Siegel, as co-trustees and replaces them with two of her children Riley, 33, and Benjamin Keough.
Benjamin Keough died in 2020 at the age of 27. Riley Keough is an actress with credits including 2020 film The Devil All the Time and the Amazon series The Terminal List.
According to the legal challenge, Ms Presley argues that the amendment was never delivered to her during her daughter’s lifetime, as specifically required by the will.
The amendment to Lisa Marie’s will also “misspells her mother’s name” and bears a signature by Lisa Marie that “appears inconsistent with her usual and customary signature”, says the court filing seen by the BBC.
Her lawyers also argue that the amendment was neither witnessed nor notarised.
“Based on the foregoing, the Purported 2016 Amendment should be deemed invalid and the Trust, as amended and completely restated in 2010 is the controlling and authoritative document and its terms administered,” the petition reads.
The legal action comes less than a week after the surviving family of Lisa Marie Presley attended a public memorial service for her at the family’s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee.
At the service, Priscilla read a poem that she said was written by one of Lisa Marie’s three daughters. All three of them, including Riley, were present for the service.
Lisa Marie’s cause of death has not yet been revealed by the Los Angeles County coroner.

Priscilla Presley has filed legal documents disputing who oversees the estate of her late daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
The filing in Los Angeles Superior Court last week disputes the validity of a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie Presley’s living trust that removed Priscilla and a former business manager as trustees and replaced them with Lisa Marie’s two oldest children, Riley Keough and Benjamin Keough, if she died or became incapacitated.
Benjamin Keough died in 2020.
A living trust is a form of estate planning that allows a person to control their assets while alive, but have them distributed if they die.
It serves the function of a will if a separate will is not filed, as appears to be the case with Lisa Marie.
Lisa Marie, a singer and the only child of Elvis Presley, died at a California hospital at age 54 on January 12 after paramedics answered a emergency call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest.
The Los Angeles County coroner is investigating, and has not yet given a cause of death.
She was laid to rest at her family home, Graceland, on January 22.
Priscilla’s court filing says there are several issues that bring the living trust amendment’s authenticity into doubt.
The filing says they include a failure to notify Priscilla of the change as required, a misspelling of Priscilla’s name in a document supposedly signed by her daughter, an atypical signature from Lisa Marie, and a lack of a witness or notarisation.
It asks a judge to declare the amendment invalid.
The filing says that the business manager Barry Siegel intended to resign, which according to the prior terms of the trust would leave Priscilla, 77, and Ms Keough, 33, as co-trustees.
A message seeking comment from representatives of Ms Keough was not immediately returned.
Lisa Marie left three surviving children.
In addition to Ms Keough, her daughter with first husband Danny Keough, she had 14-year-old twin daughters with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood.
Lisa Marie was declared divorced from Mr Lockwood in 2021, but the two were still disputing finances in family court when she died.
Priscilla’s filing is among the first of what are likely to be many legal manoeuvres surrounding the estate of Lisa Marie, the only heir of Elvis Presley.
It is not clear, however, how much that estate is worth.
A lawsuit Lisa Marie filed in 2018 alleging Mr Siegel had mismanaged the trust said it had been worth in excess of $100 million, but most of that had been depleted.
