#AceBreakingNews – New trial date set for Brittany Higgins’s accused rapist Bruce Lehrmann after lack of legal representation caused delay

The trial of the man accused of raping former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins will start on June 27, after a new barrister stepped forward to represent him.
Bruce Lehrmann was to have gone on trial on Monday, but last week it emerged he no longer had legal representation.
Today, Canberra barrister Steven Whybrow stepped forward to say he would represent Mr Lehrmann.
Mr Lehrmann is accused of sexually assaulting Ms Higgins inside an office in Parliament House in 2019.
He was charged last year after Ms Higgins complained to police.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Mr Lehrmann is set to face a jury trial, in keeping with the ACT law that those accused of sex crimes must face a jury.
A trial date has been set for Monday, June 27.
