Two other members of the Takfiri group were also captured during the operation which was conducted on Friday night, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban government, said in a statement.

The terrorists were said to be involved in two major deadly attacks in the Afghan capital in recent weeks.

One of the bombing attacks was perpetrated on a mosque and the other on an educational center, claiming dozens of civilian lives.

“All the killed IS (Daesh) members were criminals who were involved in recent explosions in Wazir Akbar Khan mosque, Kaaj Educational Centre and some other crimes against civilians,” Mujahid said in the statement on Twitter.

A bomb blast at an education institute in the capital Kabul kills at least 19 people and wound dozens on Friday.

Qari Mohammad Yousef Ahmadi, another Taliab spokesman, also confirmed the raid on the terrorists’ hideout, saying, “They were the attackers of the Wazir Akbar Khan mosque and also … of Kaaj Institute,” adding that one Taliban security force member was killed in the operation.

The blast at the female section of the Kaaj Institute education center on September 30 killed 53 people, most of them girls and young women. On September 23, at least seven people were killed and more than 40 wounded in the explosion near a mosque in Wazir Akbar Khan.

No group claimed responsibility for either attack. However, the Daesh terrorist group has a history of launching attacks against the Hazara community in Afghanistan in recent years.

The Hazara community, the poorest of the country’s ethnic groups, accounts for about 22 percent of Afghanistan’s population. Its members have been targeted in several large-scale kidnappings and killings across the country in the past.

In May last year, at least 85 people – mainly girl students – were killed and about 300 wounded when three bombs exploded near their school in the Shia-dominated Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood of Kabul.

In October 2020, Daesh admitted to attacking an educational center in the same area that killed 24 people, including students.

Daesh has a foothold in eastern and northern Afghanistan, particularly in Nangarhar, which is regarded as its base in the war-torn country. It has recently claimed responsibility for several attacks across Afghanistan.
