“CHECKIN’ THE TIME!” a poem a.k.a.: “Do You Want Cherry Tart or Cherry Pie, Billy Boy?” July 26, 2019 (Friday) NOTE: This is ALL about ME – and my strange ways of forcing myself to keep schedules and never be late and to hurry up . . . just ALL ABOUT MY INNER PROCESSES, so it, of course, does NOT reflect on anyone that might be reading it! Whew! 🙂 – It is about my “internal,” mechanism, that keeps telling me: “You’re late!” Usually, for some strange reason, it comes in the form of the voice of my 5th Grade Teacher, who used to tell her classes: “IF YOU PEOPLE DON’T SHAPE UP, WE’LL SHIP YOU OUT!” <3
We used to have clocks, hung upon The Wall,”*
So we could check the time, so we could make A CALL,
Or get to work on time – or DO THAT THING REQUIRED,
AND! before-that we had ladies – to keep us REALLY “WIRED!”
They’d remind us, quite often, of things WE HAVE TO DO,
And, if we weren’t on time, we’d-get-no-“coochie-coo,”
OR – We’d NOT get our meal, set upon the table,
So, you’d better be on time, IF – you-wish to-be-able,
To please the fine requirements – of Dear Old Mother Earth!
This is what we got (pause) – between-DEATH and/or our BIRTH!
After CLOCKS, we got-them “pagers;” yes, good friends, you bet,
“Be ON TIME! or – I-WILL BEEP-YOU, my LITTLE TEACHER’S PET!”
Don’t-ever-be late-to-class! or – sports’ practice, after school,
And-being-[even]-a-second-late-for-revelry, really isn’t cool!
Now, we’ve got the cell phone(S) – and-we’ve gone-a-FULL-‘ROUND,
So, our special lady(ies) can-still-catch-us before-A-leavin’-town,
To CALL-a-or-TO-TEXT (us) – and-remind-us: “DON’T BE LATE,
OR-YOU’RE IN THE-DOG-HOUSE – AND THE-DOG-HOUSE ISN’T GREAT!”
You-know that – in-“The Dog House” you-will NOT-get no comfort,
Or foolin’ with THAT OTHER THING, that’s-right “the cherry t[o]art!”
