Vamvoukakis is yet to enter a plea, but Magistrate Gabriel Fleming told the court the prosecution has a strong case.

“The nature of these offences are very concerning carrying a sentence of up to 25 years in prison,” he told the court.

“The seriousness of the matters suggest a risk to the community and thus I don’t accept the bail conditions meet the risks.”[Andreou]

One of Mr Vamvoukakis’s alleged associates, 31-year-old Luke Andreou, had his bail continued during a brief appearance in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.

Mr Andreou, who is free on a $10,000 bond, was arrested on June 6 and charged with money laundering, drug and firearms offences.

A third Illawarra man, Elias Elchaar, from Mount Keira, appeared before Sydney Central Court on Tuesday and was refused bail.

Mr Elchaar is charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime worth over $1 million dollars.
