The choir resumed – their CHORAL RAPPORT!
Yet each member wondered – if there would be more,
Sickness and silencing of their eager voices,
For theirs was to worship, above other choices,
To sing – in excelsis! So, why all the silence?
Even the pastor’d-been – familiar with “ninhil-ence!”
{SHE entered!**}
“Well, IT-CAME – thus:” said-She, our pastor! “Last Night,
The reason(s) – for-this turmoil, heartache – and fright:
THE LORD WISHES TO FOSTER – OUR WILL – TO COMPOSE,
OURSELVES IN EXUBERANCE! and Ash-Wednesday-did-pose,
A ‘conjunction’ of sacred – and various things,
Which-could-‘set our hearts right,’ so-when-we-sings,
We’ll sing – of a Savior, risen in-deed,
Just as our voices and bodies did-bleed,
During these dark days! of Expel!-ation!”
This, from the Lord – was His explanation!***
We listened – with interest – with horror and pride!
[but NOT pride-ful-ness – for, from this, song won’t hide!]
So, we “struck up the chorus,” as-if ONE-re-newed!!
And our voices – were VIRGIN! and CHASTENED! and “nude!”
