Dapto Dogs to get new racetrack: The iconic Dapto Dogs has found a new home on Bong Bong Rd in Dapto. Greyhound Racing NSW had to look for another site after the Dapto Agricultural and Horticultural Society decided not to renew GRNSW’s lease at the showground. The racing industry says the new $11 million track will use the latest technology to ensure the highest safety standards, but dog racing opponents still want the sport banned.
Milton childcare centre gets last-minute reprieve: The Education Department has intervened to extend the lease of the Big Fat Smile childcare centre in Milton for six months. Parents were told the centre would have to close to make way for a new hydrotherapy pool for the Budawang School and they had four weeks to make alternative arrangements. Education Minister Sarah Mitchell has assured parents that a new childcare centre will be built, but the decision to extend the lease could lead to delays in the Budawang School redevelopment.
Local men arrested in domestic violence blitz: Police have arrested and charged more than 650 people with domestic violence offencesacross the state during Operation Amarok One. Among them was a 22-year-old Wombarra man after inquiries revealed a 19-year-old woman had lost consciousness after being choked by her partner during an argument. Another man was charged after he was found hiding beneath a concealed trapdoor in his Barrak Heights home.
Former mayor gets backing of Climate 200: Wollondilly independent candidate Judy Hannan has been announced as a Climate200-backed candidate for the March 25 state election. She says Climate200 approached her offering support and after negotiations they found common ground. A former mayor and current Wollondilly councillor, the vote Ms Hannah received at the 2019 election contributed to a 20 per cent swing against sitting Liberal MP Nathaniel Smith.
Work on Jamberoo Mountain Road to begin: More than six months after it was closed because of storm-related damage and landslides, repair work will begin on the Jamberoo Mountain Road on Monday, February 6.
