Emergency crews were called to the crash, which was near the Gympie Aerodrome, around 2:45pm.

Police Inspector Brad Inskip said the two men were in two separate aircraft — a glider and ultralight.

“We will be looking into the possibility that there was a collision mid-air, but it’s very early days,” he said.

Local resident Lyndal Kenman says she heard “an almighty bang” while sitting on her verandah with her husband nearby.

“We saw two aircraft spiralling out of the cloud to the ground,” she said.

She said they called the police.

Inspector Inskip said police “will likely to maintain a crime scene overnight”.

“This is a tragic incident, and quite a graphic scene left there for all the emergency services and those who have responded, and for the witnesses,” he said.

He said the incident will hit the community hard.

“It is a small, little regional gliding club, they all know each other,” he said.

#AceBreakingNews – An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has struck Nepal, killing at least six people and destroying multiple houses in the western district of Doti.

Five other people were seriously injured as eight houses collapsed, Doti police superintendent Bhola Bhatta said, confirming an earlier figure shared by home ministry official Tulsi Rijal.

Local media showed pictures of mud and brick houses destroyed by the quake, with rescuers digging through rubble to look for survivors.

The quake was felt some 350km away in India’s capital New Delhi.

At least two people have been reported missing, Nepali army spokesman Narayan Silwal said.

Nepal is still rebuilding after two major earthquakes in 2015 which killed almost 9,000 people, destroyed whole towns and centuries-old temples, and caused a $9.2 billion blow to the economy.

Eyewitness Ram Upadhyay said he was in a nearby village when the quake struck at 2:12 am local time.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba offered condolences to the families of the victims.

“I have instructed the relevant agencies to arrange immediate and proper treatment of the injured and the victims,” he tweeted.

Army spokesman Narayan Silwal said a ground rescue team has been rushed to the site and two helicopters were on stand by in nearby Surkhet and Nepalgunj towns.

Kalpana Shrestha, a senior official of Doti district, said details were being collected from villages near the epicentre, and that one child was among those rescued from under the debris.

Nepal’s seismological centre set the earthquake at a magnitude of 6.6.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.6.

The quake was centred about 158 kilometres north-east of Pilibhit, a populous city in the neighbouring Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, the EMSC added.

Media reports after the quake showed tremors were also felt in New Delhi and surrounding areas, some 350 kilometres from Doti.

PEACE & TRUTH

Options ~

When someone treats you like you’re just one of many options, help them narrow their choice by removing yourself from the equation. Sometimes you have to try not to care, no matter how much you do. Because sometimes you can mean almost nothing to someone who means so much to you. It’s not pride – it’s self-respect. Don’t give part-time people a full-time position in your life. Know your value & what you have to offer, and never settle for anything less than what you deserve.
